A lot of Canadians today are finding stress relief in the old Indian meditative practice of Yoga. With threats of layoffs and decreasing pensions brought about by the economic crisis, many people seek refuge in yoga classes to focus their minds and find courage to control their current situation.
Yoga is the practice of using postures and breathing techniques to strengthen the body and quiet the mind. It is relaxing, and simultaneously makes one physically active.
With the current economic situation, yoga classes are suddenly experiencing an increase in attendance. Many people find classes rejuvenating and transformational, like "taking a break" from the problems of everyday life. It's also an affordable way to a healthier lifestyle; balance this with a good diet of fruits and vegetables and it's still cheaper than a day at the spa.
"I'd rather do yoga than go for a massage," says Linda Gray who does Yoga in Richmond. "A session is cheaper, and I feel more relaxed and focused after."
