Kin's Support for Local Farmers
With the arrival of local strawberries, the local produce season has finally started at Kin’s Farm Market. As many BC residents may be aware, this has been a particularly tough year for our BC farmers. The colder temperatures have delayed the growth of their fruits and vegetables, and at times destroyed months of hard work.
Kin’s Farm Market has always been a great supporter of local farmers, making sure their products are well featured at their stores. “At Kin’s, we believe in supporting our local farmers, and standing behind them during the toughest of times. This year, we are proud to be the first specialty produce chain to carry local strawberries,” said Queenie Chu, VP of Operations of Kin’s Farm Market. She added, “After all the challenges local farmers have endured to supply us with the fruits of their labour, it is our responsibility to make sure they stay fresh for our customers. No matter the product, Kin’s Farm Market is committed to delivering freshness.”
The shelf life for local produce is short, and any delay in shipping from farm to consumers will make a significant difference in the quality of the products. During local produce season, Kin’s makes sure their products are picked at the local farms in the early morning, and then shipped directly to the stores before opening hours, thus ensuring the freshest produce are made available for their customers.
This is only the beginning of the BC local produce season, with blueberries expected to follow shortly after strawberries, and then with peaches, plums, nectarines, and cherries. The duration of the local produce season may be lengthy, or may be unexpectedly short, as it heavily depends on the weather that British Columbia will experience this summer. Be sure to visit a local Kin’s Farm Market today, and enjoy the freshness of the local fruits and vegetables while it’s still available!
