Natural Cleaning Supplies

Run out of cleaning supplies? Just take some lemons from the fruit bowl and try out some environmentally friendly and safe alternatives. Below are some simple, easy cleaning solutions for your everyday need that will sure leave your home spotless and smelling great!
1. Garden Grit Hand Cleaner: Squish some lemons in your hands and scrub in hot soap and water. Gets the grime off lickety-split!

Note: Be aware that sun exposure in areas that have been in contact with citrus substances can cause severe burns.

2. Containers & Cutting Boards Deodorizer: Funky smelling lunch boxes, plastic containers or cutting boards? Scrub them down with Lemon juice and don’t rinse off for at least one hour. Wash in hot soapy water.

3. Kitchen Sink Cleaner: Make a paste with lemon juice and baking soda then gently rub into sink. Wash well with hot soapy water.

4. Microwave Cleaner: Add a few slices of lemon and a couple teaspoons of baking soda to a bowl of water and place in microwave. The baking soda will act as a deodorizer and the lemon will act as a freshener. If you’re brave, you can use the hot baking soda water to clean the insides of the microwave, but be careful. It is HOT water. Use a thick sponge and make sure to keep water away from your fingertips. You could also add a splash or two of cold water to bring the temperature down. When the microwave stops, keep the door closed to give the moisture and steam the heated bowl of water generated to have time to work. Remove the bowl (careful, it’s hot) and take a moist, warm cloth to the inside of the microwave. The crud bits should wipe off easily.

Caution: Always wear rubber gloves when using this technique. Note: Water by itself placed in a microwave can 'superheat' and cause serious burns by erupting.
